Prof. Bernabe Linares-Barranco

Bernabe is full professor of research at the Sevilla Microelectronics Institute (IMSE), which is one of the research institutes of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). His research has focused over the years in analog and mixed signal integrated circuit design (CMOS) with application to neuromorphic systems. During the 80's he obtained a PhD degree from Texas A&M university (USA) focusing on Analog Implementations of Neural Networks. In 1991 he joined IMSE as a Tenured Researcher and focused his research on mixed-signal neuromorphic chips for pattern recognition. In 1996 he went on Sabbatical stay at Johns Hopkins University (USA) and since then has put a strong emphasis on low power neuromorphic design, exploiting AER (Address Event Representation) for vision applications, leading one European project (CAVIAR) on the subject. Since 2008, he is participating in a European project (NABAB) on neuromorphic nanoscale devices, where he is focusing on systems exploiting memristors and similar nanoscale devices for adaptive learning systems, including STDP.
